F.A.Q.

LiDAR Accuracy

Accuracy varies depending on several factors.
Relative accuracy is a function of which LiDAR head and how far away from the surface you are scanning, typical relative accuracy is around 1 to 3 cm Velodyne and 5 to 15mm Riegl. 

Absolute Accuracy, which is the error from a known reference point, depending on the method of geodetic correction. 

Precise Post Processing (PPP) – which does not require a base station.  Generally speaking, we find PPP solutions added 4cm of error to lidar relative error horizontally and vertically.    However, results will vary based upon day, environment, and surveying attention to detail.  

Post-Processing Kinematic (PPK) – uses a base station or an NGS OPUS CORS Station.  This compares GPS error between rover (drone) and the base station and filters out common GPS error.  The advantage to this over RTK is that PPK can sample GPS data forward and back over long periods of time to produce better accuracy.  

LiDAR Ground Control Points – for any professional lidar service, control points are a must.  control points not only serve as a way to reference your point cloud to actual elevations but serve as a proof of quality.  When using control points that are 3x more accurate than your desired outcome, the absolute error can be almost reduced to the relative error of the lidar sensor in use.

Yes, we have car mounting packages. 

Manned aircraft and fixed wing drone options

Yes you can but performance may be degraded depending on the application.  There are a lot of manufactures attaching their LiDAR on drones.  We have found if you are just doing bare earth mapping and need just a few points per meter squared then this option will work for you. However if you need mroe resolution, talk to our sales staff about pre-ordering one of our fixed wing options, designed to fly at slow speeds.

Can LiDAR Map Under Water?

No, mapping underwater is a two wavelength Lidar mapping process and requires different wavelengths to penetrate water.

What cameras can I use with this system ?

If you are buying a DJI Mounted system, you can use any DJI camera supported by the M600.  For other cameras or other drones, we can custom mount it for you.  Talk to our sales staff on custom options.
